Space Insurance
The increasing demand for HDTV, 3D TV, satellite navigation, ‘direct to home’ internet and new mobile services, coupled with the need to build telecommunications infrastructure in developing countries and replace aging equipment elsewhere, have all driven the significant growth in satellite insurance in recent years.
Commercial satellite launch schedules have remained stable, despite recent worldwide economic turmoil affecting most other aerospace sectors. In addition, as government agencies look to improve their domestic communications, budget constraints will encourage public-private partnerships, and this should generate additional demand for space insurance products. With individual payload insurable values often higher than USD 250m, and the possibility of launches carrying more than one payload, the commercial insurance market clearly offers significant risk transfer to the space industry.
At Kiln we can provide property and liability insurance coverage at all stages of satellite deployment:
- Transport, storage and pre-launch
- Property insurance covering launch, commissioning, in-orbit life and de-orbiting
- Launch, in-orbit and de-orbiting third-party liability
Our maximum line size is USD 15m for property risks and up to USD 80m for third party liability perils.
